چکیده

This paper presents the characterization and analysis of a 16.8%-efficient 18 um silicon solar cell on steel substrate. Photoluminescence (PL) is used to monitor the solar cell’s fabrication step by step, and a correlation between PL intensity and implied open circuit voltage is established. PL images yield spatially resolved maps of key electrical parameters such as dark reverse saturation current density, open circuit voltage, series resistance, short circuit current density at maximum power point and efficiency. Light IV/dark IV curve fitting and local ideality factor curve fitting are used to extract electrical parameters. Keywords—18 um, curve fitting, photoluminescence, solar cell, steel substrate, thin silicon.

Effect of Silicon Nanowire on Crystalline Silicon Solar Cell Characteristics

Nanowires (NWs) are recently used in several sensor or actuator devices to improve their ordered characteristics. Silicon nanowire (Si NW) is one of the most attractive one-dimensional nanostructures semiconductors because of its unique electrical and optical properties. In this paper, silicon nanowire (Si NW), is synthesized and characterized for application in photovoltaic device. Si NWs are ...

Laser-assisted Shunt Removal on High-efficiency Silicon Solar Cells

Development of all-back-contact (ABC) silicon solar cells at the Australian National University (ANU), as part of a collaboration between Trina Solar and the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS), is progressing, and 22.6% efficient ABC cells, based on the aperture-area of 13 cm 2 that excludes busbars, were recently fabricated at ANU. When measured using the 16 cm 2 aperture-are...

Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposited (Pecvd) Silicon-Rich-Nitride Thin Films For Improving Silicon Solar Cells Efficiency

Silicon-rich-nitride (SRN) films were deposited by plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD) by changing the silane and ammonia flow rates. These films were thermally annealed for precipitation of silicon nanocrystals. Measurements of refractive indices and FTIR absorption spectra of these films indicated increase in the silicon content. Thermally annealed SRN films exhibited photolumi...

Imaging interstitial iron concentrations in boron-doped crystalline silicon using photoluminescence

Imaging the band-to-band photoluminescence of silicon wafers is known to provide rapid and high-resolution images of the carrier lifetime. Here, we show that such photoluminescence images, taken before and after dissociation of iron-boron pairs, allow an accurate image of the interstitial iron concentration across a boron-doped p-type silicon wafer to be generated. Such iron images can be obtai...

Micro-photoluminescence spectroscopy on heavily-doped layers of silicon solar cells

We report and explain the photoluminescence spectra emitted from silicon solar cells with heavily-doped layers at the surface. A micro-photoluminescence spectroscopy system is employed to investigate the total spectrum emitted from both the heavily-doped layer and the silicon substrate with micron-scale spatial resolution. The two regions of the device give rise to separate photoluminescence pe...
